Galatians 1:6-10 There Is One Gospel

Galatians 1:6-10 There Is One Gospel

Galatians 1:6-10

One of the greatest deceptions that Satan employs is to lure people who are earnestly pursuing the Lord into accepting a false gospel. This deception is particularly effective because a false gospel often sounds very close to the truth. However, the Bible is clear that there is only one gospel.

Paul confronts the destructive deception brought about by false teachers who are empowered by demonic forces. These false teachers disguise themselves as God's spokesmen but compromise His truth. This warning is frequent in Paul's letters. For example, in 2 Corinthians 11, Paul warns against false apostles and deceitful workers who disguise themselves as apostles of Christ. He reminds us that even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light, so it is no surprise that his servants disguise themselves as servants of righteousness.

Satan is not the caricature with red skin and a pitchfork; rather, he appears as an angel of light, often as a well-suited and eloquent preacher. This is the essence of the deception. His primary target is the doctrine of salvation — the gospel. If people are deceived about how they come to God, they will not be able to come to Him. This is why Paul's greatest fear was a false gospel, and why he wrote extensively about it.

False gospels are alluring because they often contain elements of truth, making them sound convincing. They may be presented by eloquent speakers who appear righteous. However, these false teachings distort the gospel of Christ and ultimately lead people away from salvation.

The danger is profound: if people believe a false gospel, they will not come to God. This is why Paul’s warnings are so strong and repeated. The gospel is the power of God for salvation, and any distortion threatens eternal consequences.
